So on the mentor committee there's me, two black people, and one asian woman. I by far invest the most into the program, organize meetings, and make shit happen. I also promote cohesiveness. However, I get annoyed because Lan is very interested in establishing dominance and a pecking order in which she's at the top. Aaron, Courtney, and I get along great and when we talk it's comfortable and everyone gets heard. However Lan does not seem to be interested in bonding and she's not comfortable in a setting of shared leadership. It's just really off-putting to me and it seems like it's off-putting to Aaron and Courtney too because discussion becomes short and terse once she arrives.

I was just talking on the phone with my mom and I saw a picture of her, Roger, and some celebrity they met at a home and garden show. When I saw the picture I thought it was great and they looked happy. When I brought up the picture to my mom, she said, "I know I looked so terrible. Roger didn't look good either." I felt bad. But if I don't make changes I can easily fall into the same patterns and pass them on. So from now on I'm less concerned with my appearance and more sure that it's adequate.
